Monday, March 1st, QMUG/LA’s Spring ’99 Advisory Council Mtng took place. What happened? What was decided? For more information, attend QMUG/LAs next mtng, Mon, April 12th, 7;30pm!

Tuesday, March 16th, Apple shipped Mac OS X Server, the server operating system that combines the strength of UNIX (Mach microkernel, protected memory, pre-emptive multitasking, etc.) w/ the simplicity of Macintosh, and, according to ZD Labs WebBench, outperforms Linux, Solaris and Windows NT Server. Apple also announced Darwin, the Open Source release of Mac OS X Server.

Wednesday, March 24th, Apple held its annual shareholders meeting, where Steve Jobs said Apple may persue *three* markets for portables, rather than its original professional and consumer markets model.

Friday, March 26th, another macro virus, Melissa, hit, affecting Microsoft Outlook 98 and Word 97 users.

Friday, March 26th, so said in “G3 vs. Pentium III,” “Once again, PC Magazine Labs tests... reveal that the Apple Power Macintosh G3/400 generally outperforms x86-based products — in this case, a Dell Dimension PIII/500.” For more information, visit our own mirror-page.

Tuesday, April 13th, 9am-4pm, “Troubleshooting and Problem Solving on the Macintosh” takes place through Wednesday, April 14th. Tuesday will tackle hardware issues while Wednesday will tackle OS and software issues. Registration is $225 for either day, or $395 for both days, and includes breakfast and lunch. Monday, May 10th, Apple’s 1999 Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) happens at the San Jose Convention Center through Friday, May 14th.
