QMUG/LA may have taken an extended hiatus, but Apple and the Macworld didn’t. Here’s what has happened so far in our *12th* year, July 2005 - June 2006: 
 

Wed, Jul 13th  Apple announced its 3rd quarter results,
2005           $320 million in profit on $3.52 billion in revenue, compared to
               $61 million in profit on $2 billion in revenue last year, and shipped
               $1.15 million Macs and $6.15 million iPods, compared to
               $0.88 million Macs and $0.86 million iPods last year 

Tue, Jul 14th  AAPL closed at $40.75/share 

Mon, Jul 18th  iTunes Music Store sales exceeded 500 million 

Fri, Jul 22nd  Microsoft renamed Longhorn to Vista.
               Some quipped it stood for Vaporware Impossible by Stated Time of Arrival,
               Virtual Imitation or Similar to Tiger from Apple,
               Virus Incubator Support & Testing Architecture, or
               Viruses Infections Spyware Trojans Adware 

Tue, Jul 26th  Apple updated and consolidated iBooks to two models,
               12.1" 1.33 GHz 512 MB RAM 40 GB HD & Combo Drive for $999, and
               14.1" 1.4 GHz 512 MB RAM 60 GB HD & SuperDrive for $1299 

Fri, Jul 29th  HP announced it would stop selling iPods 

Tue, Aug  2nd  Apple unveiled its Mighty Mouse 

Wed, Aug  3rd  Apple opened the iTunes Music Store in Japan 

Thu, Aug  4th  Windows Vista Beta hit by virus after only eight days 

Sat, Aug  6th  Apple opened its 2nd retail store in Japan, in Shibuya;
               Apple opened its 1st retail store in Japan in the Ginza, Nov 2003 

Sun, Aug  7th  iTunes Music Store sales in Japan exceeded 1 million in four days 

Fri, Aug 26th  Rio announced it would stop selling its MP3 players 

Mon, Aug 29th  Filemaker 8 was released 

Wed, Aug 31st  Apple released Mac mini test drive program 

Thu, Sep  1st  Apple rescinded Mac mini test drive program 

Wed, Sep  7th  Apple unveiled iTunes 5, Motorola ROKR, and iPod nano  

Fri, Sep  9th  AAPL closed at $51.31/share 

Fri, Sep 16th  IDG cancelled Macworld Expo/Boston for 2006 

Tue, Sep 20th  Apple increased .mac storage to 2GB and added Groups 

Wed, Oct 11th  Apple announced its 4th quarter results,
               $430 million in profit on $3.68 billion in revenue, compared to
               $106 million in profit on $2.35 billion in revenue last year, and fiscal year results of
               $1.34 billion in profit on $13.93 billion in revenue, compared to
               $0.28 billion in profit on $8.28 billion in revenue last year 

Wed, Oct 14th  Apple unveiled new iMacs w/ iSight cameras built-in,
               new PhotoBooth software, new FrontRow software for infrared remote control,
               as well as new video-capable iPods in 30 GB and 60 GB models
               and iTunes 6 (just 35 days after iTunes 5) that sells videos for $1.99 

Wed, Oct 19th  Apple updated PowerBooks, unveiled new dual-core Power Macs,
               and introduced new Aperture software 

Mon, Oct 24th  Apple opened its iTunes Music Store in Australia 

Mon, Oct 31st  iTunes Music Store video sales exceeded 1 million in less than 20 days 

Thu, Nov  3rd  AAPL closed at $61.85/share 

Sat, Nov 19th  Apple opened its 14th retail store in the L.A. area, at the Beverly Center
               (#2, 05.19.01) Glendale Galleria, (#12, 10.13.01) Northridge, (#18, 11.10.01) Newport Beach,
               (#24, 12.01.01) Costa Mesa, (#34, 07.26.02) The Grove, (#52, 01.07.03) Pasadena,
               (#61, 07.11.03) Santa Monica, (#76, 02.13.04) Mission Viejo, (#109, 06.4.05) Century City,
               (#116, 07.30.05) Manhattan Beach, (#126, 10.29.05) Thousand Oaks, (#128, 11.12.05) Brea,
               (#131, 11.19.05) Sherman Oaks, and (#132, 11.19.05) Beverly Center 

Tue, Nov 22nd  Apple iTunes Music Store jumped from 14th to 7th largest music retailer
               (1) Wal-Mart, (2) Best Buy, (3) Target, (4) Amazon.com, (5) FYE, (6) Circuit City,
               (7) Apple/iTunes, (8) Tower Records, (9) Sam Goody, (10) Borders 

Tue, Dec  6th  Apple iTunes Music Store added NBC shows for sale 

Tue, Dec 13th  AAPL closed at $74.98/share
