QMUG/LA is more than topics and presenters. QMUG/LA has organizational highlights and milestones of its own. Here they are in timeline form: 

 
’94-’95  Our *1st* Year 

May ’94  the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Community Services Center (the Center)’s
         Community Outreach & Education Department (COED) places an ad
         in Frontiers newsmagazine calling for gay Mac users to meet 
Jun ’94  “the Lavendar Macintosh User’s Group” is created, as a working name 
Jul ’94  LavMUG gets two co-chairs, one female, one male 
Aug ’94  LavMUG has a planning meeting at Being Alive 
Sep ’94  LavMUG’s planning meeting votes for “QMUG/LA” as the group’s official name 
Nov ’94  QMUG/LA sends out its 1st USPS mailing, paid for by the Center 
Dec ’94  QMUG/LA has its 1st “Absolutely Fabulous Gay Software Review & Disks” 
Feb ’95  QMUG/LA sends out its 1st monthly newsletter 
Apr ’95  QMUG/LA distributes its 1st draft of a potential brochure at a QORE meeting 
May ’95  QMUG/LA gets its own phone number, (213) 222-QMUG 
Jun ’95  QMUG/LA ends its 1st year w/ ~45 members 

 
’95-’96  Our *2nd* Year 

Jul ’95  Our Membership Co-Chair distributes a Member Directory at the monthly meeting 
Jul ’95  QMUG/LA opens its own conference on Digital Popcorn, a First Class BBS 
Jul ’95  QMUG/LA gets its 1st e-mail address, qmug-la@pop.com 
Aug ’95  QMUG/LA is listed in the Pacific Bell White Pages, Smart Yellow Pages,
         and Hollywood Community Directory 
Jan ’96  QMUG/LA is listed in the gay Community Yellow Pages 
Jan ’96  QMUG/LA sponsors a female member’s trip to Macworld Expo/SF,
         by paying for her round-trip plane ticket and exhibits registration 
May ’96  QMUG/LA gets its 2nd e-mail address, QMUGLA@aol.com 
May ’96  QMUG/LA sends out its 2nd major USPS mailing, which includes a survey
         about what meeting nights are preferred (1st/2nd Mon/Tue), paid for by the Center 
Jun ’96  QMUG/LA ends its 2nd year w/ ~80 members 

 
’96-’97  Our *3rd* Year 

Jul ’96  QMUG/LA surveys its membership about various aspects of QMUG/LA 
Oct ’96  QMUG/LA has its 1st “Gay MacJeopardy” tournament 
Nov ’96  QMUG/LA registers its domain, qmug.org 
Apr ’97  QMUG/LA participates in the Center’s “Country Fair” 
Jun ’97  QMUG/LA launches its website 
Jun ’97  QMUG/LA ends its 3rd year w/ ~100 members 

 
’97-’98  Our *4th* Year 

Dec ’97  QMUG/LA includes an Emergency Startup Disk
         w/ its 4th (and last) annual Absolutely Fabulous Software disks 
Mar ’98  QMUG/LA sends out its 3rd major USPS mailing, paid for by the Center 
Mar ’98  QMUG/LA redeems its User Group Store points for Apple-logoed paraphernalia
         for an awesome 4th Anniversary raffle 
Jun ’98  QMUG/LA participates in the Center’s grand opening
         of “the Village at Ed Gould Plaza“ 
Jun ’98  QMUG/LA ends its 4th year w/ ~120 members 

 
’98-’99  Our *5th* Year 

Jul ’98  QMUG/LA has its 1st “Star Search“ meeting 
Aug ’98  QMUG/LA distributes its 2nd draft of a potential brochure at a general meeting 
Jan ’99  qmug.org begins changing its desktop patterns monthly 
Jan ’99  QMUG/LA sponsors a male member’s trip to Macworld Expo/SF,
         by paying for his round-trip plane ticket and exhibits registration 
Jun ’99  QMUG/LA ends its 5th year w/ ~160 members 

 
’99-’00  Our *6th* Year 

Aug ’99  QMUG/LA has 1000 Qontact/Qalendar business cards printed up 
Nov ’99  QMUG/LA is interviewed by IMRU, a gay radio show 
Jan ’00  QMUG/LA receives a best user group website award, Mac or PC,
         for Small User Group Category from the User Group Academy 
Jan ’00  QMUG/LA gets its own internet mailing list 
Jan ’00  QMUG/LA gets a 3rd e-mail address, QMUGLA@mac.com 
Feb ’00  QMUG/LA begins printing its monthly handouts in color 
Feb ’00  qmug.org gets its 10,000th hit to its main page (~32 months) 
Mar ’00  QMUG/LA changes website hosts, from artnet.net to interland.net 
Jun ’00  QMUG/LA ends its 6th year w/ ~180 members 

 
’00-’01  Our *7th* Year 

Aug ’00  QMUG/LA sends out its 4th major USPS mailing 
Oct ’00  QMUG/LA has its 1st meeting off-site, not at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center 
Dec ’00  QMUG/LA passes its 200 members mark 
Mar ’01  qmug.org gets its 100,000th hit to its entire site (~45 months) 
Apr ’01  qmug.org has over 1GB of throughput (~46 months) 
Jun ’01  QMUG/LA ends its 7th year w/ ~220 members 

 
’01-’02  Our *8th* Year 

Jul ’01  QMUG/LA members vote to meet at Dr. Rawstock 
Nov ’01  qmug.org gets its 20,000th hit to its main page (~21 months) 
Jun ’02  QMUG/LA ends its 8th year w/ ~220 members 

 
’02-’03  Our *9th* Year 

Aug ’02  QMUG/LA hosts the L.A. area MUG Leaders Forum 
Aug ’02  QMUG/LA hosts the Apple User Group Program Manager 
Oct ’02  QMUG/LA has its 100th meeting 
Nov ’02  QMUG/LA publishes its own iCal 
Jan ’03  QMUG/LA organizes L.A. area MUG Leaders 
         to staff the Macworld Expo/SF User Group Booth for a day 
Jan ’03  qmug.org has over 2GB of throughput (~21 months) 
Mar ’03  qmug.org gets its 30,000th hit to its main page (~16 months) 
Jun ’03  QMUG/LA’s iCal at iCalShare.com remains the most popular
         gay or L.A. iCal, at 130 hits 
Jun ’03  QMUG/LA ends its 9th year w/ ~230 members
